All right. For those of you who didn’t know, I got back from Sacramento, CA a little over a week ago. Why was I there? Well, for those of you who didn’t know, one of my friends has been letting me earn some money working for him doing landscaping. Why the odd repetition? Well, for those of you who didn’t know (amongst which you may count me, until a string of conversations recently), there are (apparently) at least a couple of people out there that read my Live Journal with whom I don’t actually speak on a regular basis. Apparently (like many of you whom I know read this from time to time), they find my life important enough with which to keep “current”, but not interesting enough to comment on said updates, which is one of the many reasons (the interim job, and my inherent laziness are just two others) that these updates have been even fewer and far-betweener (wait – that’s not right…) than usual.
Huh? I dunno. Anyway, K is married to one of my wife’s high school friends. We ran into them within the first ten minutes of arriving at her high school reunion. I made some dumb joke (yeah, I know, go figure), and K and I ended up talking almost the entire time, since neither of us knew anyone there other than our respective spouses, as neither of us had attended said high school. He operates his own landscaping business, and about a month later (when I was pretty desperate for rent money), agreed to let me help him out from time to time. That was going pretty well, and when he had some work lined up by a friend during a typically slow season for him, away we went.
We left a week later than had originally been planned, and the trip slowly grew and grew, so instead of a trip 1-2 weeks long beginning November 15, we ended up leaving the Monday before Thanksgiving and got back the Monday before Christmas. Interesting for a few reasons, not the least of which was that previously, the longest my wife and I had been apart since we got married in August of 2003 was a few days. I did keep some notes on the trip, but I didn't post anything, as my internet time was a little limited, but more because my solitary time was almost nonexistent (more on that later) and thus writing anything was a little more difficult; I also spent most of the quality writing time that I did get on actual creative writing, including adding a completely new scene and making new revisions to the screenplay I hadn't touched in almost a year.
We've finally gotten through the hectic, crazy rushing-around-ness of the holidays combined with making time to see the friends and family that I hadn't seen for a month. Whew! Having survived, and with more time and energy to write, I thought to update everybody on assorted goings-on. Yes, I will admit to some guilt, since otherwise someone (
shardavarius,
swartho,
eric_p, or
queenzippo) will call me on it... I've been spending 4+ hours a night playing computer and video games, but more on that later, too. Emphasis, sequence, parry and riposte, cause and effect, and all in its proper place.
I'll post the first actual trip randomness (having babbled on much longer than I had intended) some time in the next 24 hours, probably, but it'll be light in outside in less than 2 hours, so I'm going to try to sleep now.. We'll see about both of those as they occur (or not)...
Out.
